Our first Book Club of 2014!

We had an interesting discussion at our book club this week talking about Almost Home by Joan Bauer.  It seemed that everyone agreed that it was a very good book, and we talked about our favorite characters.  Joan Bauer does a great job of making characters interesting and 'real!'  Next month (which is also next YEAR!) we will be discussing The Book of Elsewhere: The Shadows.  Sounds like it's going to be a great book to curl up with and read over the winter break!  We will be meeting to talk about it on Monday, January 13.  We have several copies in the library, so feel free to drop by and check one out!

December Book Club

We had a great turn-out for our first book club, and had a good discussion...I really appreciated how everyone was willing to share their opinions, even if they were different from other peoples'!  I'm looking forward to our next book club book...something totally different from Breadcrumbs.  We will be reading Almost Home by Joan Bauer, and meeting during lunch on December 9th to discuss it.  Here is a book trailer to get you excited about it!

The First Book Club of the 2013-14 School Year!

We are super excited to welcome back our fifth grade book clubbers and hopefully see some new faces to book club!  Each month, you all will get to vote on the book club book of your choice and we will meet during lunch in the media center to discuss the book that we read.  If you would like to check out a Kindle from the LS media center to read the month's book club book, please have your guardian complete this form.  Or, if you would like to bring in your own e-Reader for book club, please complete the Acceptable Use Policy Form and return it to Lauren Ward.

To kick off this year's book club, we have chosen the first book of the year, which also happens to be a Georgia Book Award nominee.  It is an amazing fantasy called The Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu.  We will meet on Monday, October 14th in the LS Media Center so please come having read the book and don't forget to bring your lunch.  You may check out a copy of the book from the Media Center or your local public library.  Enjoy the book trailer below for a preview of this month's book:

Falling In by Frances O'Roark Dowell

B z z z z z z z

That buzzing sound?

Do you hear that?

There it is again.

B z z z z z z z

Is it the sound of all of you reading?

B z z z z z z z

It must be, because this is a fantastic read that surely cannot be missed!

This story is a bit like Hansel and Gretel, maybe a bit like Alice in Wonderland and in general a bit like a fairytale. Isabelle Bean is an unusual dresser that starts to see strange things once she begins listening to that buzzing noise. Find out what it can be and what happens to Isabelle by reading with us!

Join the book club discussion on Monday, March 4th in the media center. Bring your lunch and we will provide a treat that goes along with the book.

Hope to see you there.

Happy Reading!
