What a fantastic discussion we had for Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper! You all were so thoughtful in your comments and it really made for an intriguing discussion. Thank you all for reading and attending! Our next book club pick is One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia, which is also a Georgia Book Award Nominee for this year. (We will have two down and one to go to be eligible to vote in the Spring!) It is an interesting book of historical fiction that takes place in California as three sisters embark upon a journey to reconnect with their mother during racially charged times. I can't wait to hear what you all think. Our next meeting will be on Monday, December 12th during lunch. This has changed from our original date because of some special activities we are having in the media center. Copies of the book may be checked out in the media center or from your local public library.
Happy Reading!

Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
The 5th grade girls book club was sooo much fun! Everyone had such diverse opinions about Once Upon A Marigold that it made for an interesting discussion. We also rolled out our mechina book buddy program so that was an added bonus. Thank you to all the enthusiastic 5th grade girls who read the book and attended the book club. It was a blast! Our next book club book is Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. Not only is it a great book that teaches us a lot about life lessons but it is also a GEORGIA BOOK AWARD NOMINEE! How great is that?! I look forward to discussing this book with all of you at our next book club meeting on Monday, October 24th during lunch.

First Book Club Of The Year!
Welcome back from what I hope was a wonderful summer that involved lots of reading! For those of you new to the book club, we will meet about once a month to discuss the book of your choosing. At the end of each book club, we will vote on our next read. I will provide a dessert that ties into the theme of the book. For our first meeting, I have gone ahead and chosen the first book that we will discuss. However, after the first meeting, the books that we read will be your choice. SO, for our first pick, we will be reading Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris. We have enjoyed some of her other fabulous books in the past. Our first meeting will take place on Monday, September 26th during lunch in the media center. We have a few copies of the book in the LS media center but we also encourage you to check it out at your local public library. Therefore, by September 26th please come to book club having finished the book and don't forget to bring your lunch. I will provide a dessert that ties into the theme of the book. Happy Reading....Mrs. Brown & Mrs. Sauter
