March Book Club

We had an interesting discussion about our last book club book, The Night Gardener, with several girls commenting on how scary and bloody it was.  Funny thing, because I read the book, and while it was definitely on the creepy side, there wasn't much (if any?!) bloody stuff.  Not sure if the girls are more sensitive than I am, or if there's also a little bit of theatrics and melodrama in their reviews of the books.  :)

For our next book club book, we will be TOTALLY changing gears and reading our first graphic novel together, El Deafo.  This book is the memoir of author Cece Bell's childhood wearing hearing aids and living with the difficulties of being a child who is different from her peers.  The book was chosen as one of the Newbery Honor books this year.  The Newbery is given each year for the most outstanding children's books of the previous year...what an honor for El Deafo to be chosen!  Take a look at the book trailer below for a sneak peek at the book!

Our next book club will take place Monday, March 9th during lunch...looking forward to another lively discussion!
